about

So, this song kind of sets the tempo for this album. When we wrote it I never really expected it to be this big, but like most songs I write it ended up with this driving beat and anthemic bridge. Thematically though, it sets the tone as well. When I wrote it I was picturing a guy sitting at a bar with a big decision to make, kicking things back and forth in his mind. He’s been putting on a front to everyone including himself that everything is fine. Like most things I write it ended up being really self-referential. I’m a pretty ambitious person, and I always seem to be adding more to my plate. How much is too much? As responsibilities mount, life changes happen, I’m always dealing with questions “Am I doing this right?” “Can I handle this?” “Maybe I should just rest here and coast for a while”. This song is a reminder to keep at it, keep plugging away. If you’re doing the right thing, fighting the “good fight” you’re on the right path. And don’t let your anxiety (they don’t want to win they don’t want to lose, they just like to fight) bog you down and keep you from getting where you want to go.
Musically, I started out trying to write a Frank Black/Pixies-ish song. I’ve always admired those story teller songs (Soul Asylum is really good at this too) where you get an idea of characters and a vague storyline that is somehow twisted. This is how it came out. I don’t know… I don’t think we got really close but I’m not disappointed with the end result either. I never really thought this would be an intro song to the album but the intro came out so uptempo and that bass cruch with the cymbal hits gets you pumped. Also, yes… this song title is a Tombstone reference. Not sorry.

lyrics

“Pour yourself another pint and tell yourself another lie, you’re doing fine”
“Buying in not selling out is what I think this song’s about”
“You’re alright don’t settle now, keep fighting the good fight”
“Just keep your head up kid, keep running kid, you’re doing fine.”

about

Maravich Indianapolis, Indiana

The members of Maravich have done their time in all manner of loud local (and beyond local) bands, so their aggressive, sometimes abrasive sound shouldn't come as a surprise. The trio melds this sound around some hardcore influences and a few strong melodic elements to come up with their current musical incarnation. Fans of all things brash and heavy won't be disappointed." -IndianapolisMusic.net ... more
