about

I mean, yeah. Yes. This song is not so subtly sort of built around themes from Terminator 2. Thus the title (No fate but what you make). But, I mean, also the Iron Giant? The Matrix? X-Men? If you listen to the lyrics it’s a story about a robot sent back in time BY THE FULL GROWN BOY to kill HIMSELF as a child, to stop some sort of horror he did from happening (you built me to stop your villainy. Come with me, you’ve got nothing to lose). The robot meets the kid and decides to save him instead and change history. I always loved stories like Cable and Bishop from X-Men. Or sci fi stories where a seemingly innocent kid grows up to be evil. As a kid I was HEAVILY influenced by the Back to the Future series and then later T2. Since this whole album has a time jumping theme, it seems appropriate.
Musically I’m showing how crappy I am at trying to steal stuff from other artists. When I first wrote this song, the opening guitar lick, the descending D thingie, I was trying to write one of those late 90s emo songs like something Elliot would do. Trying to tone us down and write a soft, pretty song. But of course I couldn’t let it be so it ends up being this giant building anthemic song with chugs and solos and everything. Whatever. I think for the rhythm parts on this we did the overdubs with this weird little homemade amp that Alex found that was made out of a loudspeaker and only had one knob. This is one I think would have been cool with, like a cello part and some piano. Could have spent a whole session just on this song to get it exactly right. Maybe someday!

lyrics

“I’m from your future, maybe.”
“I was sent here by here, but now I’m here and I’ll save you”
“Come with me if you want to live”

about

Maravich Indianapolis, Indiana

The members of Maravich have done their time in all manner of loud local (and beyond local) bands, so their aggressive, sometimes abrasive sound shouldn't come as a surprise. The trio melds this sound around some hardcore influences and a few strong melodic elements to come up with their current musical incarnation. Fans of all things brash and heavy won't be disappointed." -IndianapolisMusic.net ... more
