This song is about how, no matter what you do, how powerful you think you are, at some point things get out of control and out of your hands. It’s how you respond to that loss of control that really reflects you as a person. When you are young and dumb you take life for granted, at some point we all get punched in the mouth by life and everything you think you had control over falls apart. It’s then that you realize that things don’t last forever. I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t somewhat politically motivated as well. I’m a history guy. One thing that remains constant in human history is that everything falls apart. How prepared are you to respond when it happens to you?
This is one of the few songs we’ve written where I didn’t really know where it was going. I sorta had a couple guitar parts that were cool-ish but didn’t really fit together in a way that made sense. The opening lick is kind of like a Far part and then it goes to the super heavy chug part and then into a more standard rock chorus. I really like the cymbal bashing at the end of the chorus and the dynamic of going super quiet in the second verse.
