about

Probably the most emotionally raw song on the album. For a while we had a run of really terrible losses among our friends and family. And, to some extent, this revisits the first song I wrote for this band “Go On Without You”, which feels like a million years ago now. That song was written about a great friend and the bassist in my old band, Joey Ours, who died unexpectedly and tragically. It has been over a decade but the loss is still raw and the questions never go away “why did this happen?” “was there anything we could have done to prevent this?” “why didn’t I appreciate our time together more?”. A line from that song “god damn, it’s all the little stupid shit” talks about how it’s a lot of little dumb memories from time together being bored teenagers that stands out now and that I miss. Fast forward to a couple years ago and we are having a rash of losses of musician friends who we loved and respected. Within a few years we lost Jason McCash, Jared Southwick, Kris Arnold, Josh Wold… It seemed like every time I opened facebook there was another friend being mourned. Then, the hardest one that touched us in the band the most, Jeremy Dreher. Worm. Close friend of the band, died tragically and unexpectedly. His band Bulletwolf played a show earlier that day. I skipped it because I’d seen them a million times, it was hot out, I had something else going one… I don’t even remember why exactly. But whatever it was, it wasn’t more important than seeing my friend for the last time. So again, a friend is gone unexpectedly, again we are left with all the questions, again it’s all the dumb stuff that stands out to me. You never know when it might be the last time you see someone. That said, in both cases, I’ve constantly felt a connection to that person going forward. I rate horror movies these days on whether Joey would have liked them. I base the songs I write on whether Jeremy would have dug them (and I think he would have really dug this song). It’s good to miss someone that isn’t with you physically anymore. Keeping them with you spiritually in the good times and the bad allows them to stay with us for that much longer. It’s important to keep them with you and think “Damn, Joey would have loved this.” Or “Nah, this riff doesn’t rip enough, Worm wouldn’t mosh to it”. And as always, just be kind and appreciate each other. We’re all we’ve got.

lyrics

“They’re ghosts hiding in the shadows of our lives, watching and laughing all the time”
“Maybe you got to say goodbye, maybe the disappeared before you realized, but they’re still watching, they’re still here, always in our hearts if we never let them go”
“I’ve been there before don’t want to talk about it. We’ve all got our ghosts, we’ll never live without them”
“put your life on paper, you’ll never get it back”

about

Maravich Indianapolis, Indiana

The members of Maravich have done their time in all manner of loud local (and beyond local) bands, so their aggressive, sometimes abrasive sound shouldn't come as a surprise. The trio melds this sound around some hardcore influences and a few strong melodic elements to come up with their current musical incarnation. Fans of all things brash and heavy won't be disappointed." -IndianapolisMusic.net ... more
